LUIS is member of the month!
JUNE MEMBER HIGHLIGHT OF THE MONTH - Luis Gaona!
Luis has been a member with us since January of this year and since the day he walked
in he has molded right into our community. Showing up to community events, cheering
on his classmates, participating in this years open with us, and always working hard
while having a good time!
He is consistently in our 6pm Classes, and has gotten to know
everyone so well. He takes great feedback, asks for coaching tips and cues to help him
get better, but while also being smart and knowing when to listen to his body and scale
back. He really emphasizes working on the technique over load, and as a coach that is
what we love to see! He took on the Murph challenge with us this past May and brought
his daughter along to watch Dad and the community, to which I heard she then wanted to
come every weekend!
This is a great example to our youth and young ones, and I’m sure
one day she’ll be crushing it in the gym just like her Dad! And I also personally like him
teaching me the Spanish Lingo haha. Read more below to get to know him!
What is your background in Fitness/sport?
I have played soccer my entire life but always struggled with my aerobic capacity (cardio
hahaha), saw a CrossFit gym near my place in Ecuador, my home country, and it was an
amazing experience and I never looked back to regular gyms again. It actually made me more
athletic, waking an interest in running and cycling.
When did you start CrossFit/At Vic City?
I started at Vic City 4 months ago I think?
How many CrossFit Opens have you done?
I have only done 2 CrossFit opens.
Favourite memories in the gym?
I like that at CF Vic City the coach is always looking at your technique, and is actually wanting to
help you get better, with those small changes that actually make a huge difference!
I loved Murph. We did this past May, 2023!!!
What is your favourite movement?
Power clean and jerk!
Least favourite?
Snatch can’t get it figure out
Favourite WOD or type?
A classic OG, FILTHY FIFTY!
What do you enjoy the most about CrossFit?
I love what it’s based on! Offers everything you need from a training session as endurance and
strength training in one! The community as well is very supportive, specially when you feel you
can’t do that last rep and they motivate you to keep it going! The coaches that are qualified and
know what they are doing, it shows by building the amazing program we get every week!
Most recent achievement that you are proud of?
Started to prioritize lifting technique more than increasing weight, it has helped me actually lift
heavier!
What goals are you working towards right now?
I want to get my first muscle up and handstand walk hopefully this year!
And to be able to do more than 5 toes to bar in a row
Luis, thank you for joining our community and being such a strong member in each
class. Every time you walk in the gym you’re smiling, waving and saying hello to those in
the previous class, while you start warming up and getting your body ready, which we
also love to see.
Continue to be you and share your love of CrossFit with those in the
gym and to those close to you. It’s because of members like you that keep this
